This study was conducted using the focused ethnographic (FE) methodology described by Roper and Shapira [36]. Roper and Shapira’s [36] FE focuses on exploring a subculture of a population using a predetermined research question within a limited period. FE aims to understand cultural phenomena and how cultural constructs influence health behaviour. Findings from the research could promote the provision of culturally appropriate health services to enhance maternal health outcomes.

Abstract Facilitating factors are potential factors that encourage the uptake of maternal health services, while limiting factors are those potential factors that limit women’s access to maternal health services. Though cultural norms or values are significant factors that influence health-seeking behaviour, there is a limited exploration of the facilitating and limiting factors of these cultural norms and values on the use of maternal health services in primary health care facilities.
