The City of Yellowknife’s asset management goal may not be attainable and its funding model is unsustainable, council heard during a progress report on July 8. The city hired accounting firm KPMG in 2024 to bring its asset management maturity to level three — “competent” — which would mean the city has an effective asset management system.

The city is looking to update its current livery licence bylaw with new requirements to increase the safety and security of Yellowknife’s taxi service. Keith Sulzer, the city’s manager of municipal law and policy, presented the proposal to council on July 8. Administration developed the update based on engagement sessions with taxi company representatives and feedback survey results.

Curator Kirsten Murphy’s first art exhibition, an all-women’s collection called ‘Inner Landscapes’, is now on display at The Gallery on 47th Street and showcases the internal thoughts and emotions of Northern artists. The exhibition opened on July 10 and features a mixed media cyanotype by Murphy, a glass mosaic by Vicki Tompkins and Dot Van Vilet and an acrylic painting by Lori Warren.
