I have long accepted the idea that there is no such thing as “this player is worth X million” in football. Players are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for them. Everything else is a mix of observation, bias, personal preference, and the naive belief that the market can be outsmarted by signing elite talent on the cheap. Sometimes it does happen, like Lammens for example. But over the long run, the winners are always those who spend big and spend wisely.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea will welcome Nicolas Jackson back from his Bayern Munich loan for the pre-season. The plan is for Xabi Alonso to have a closer look at the Senegal international, whose future at the club appeared to be over under Enzo Maresca. Chelsea have fielded a few enquiries from clubs in the Premier League and beyond about Jackson, and they might well sanction a sale if they receive an offer they deem to be too good.

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United remain interested in Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers. The fact that Villa have qualified for next season's Champions League does not change Rogers' situation, as the England international has a good chance of leaving the club. Villa are expected to listen to offers in the region of £80m and hope to use the funds for the squad rebuild ahead of the next campaign.
