1 Introduction Hydrogen ( H 2 ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ ) has been proposed as an important fuel to help decarbonize the world's energy systems. H 2 ${\mathrm{H}}_{2}$ fuel, when combusted, does not release carbon dioxide (C O 2 ${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ ) as a byproduct. This allows it to be used to decarbonize various end-uses that currently rely on the combustion of fossil fuels.
