Learning in partnership: a dyadic exploration of mutual learning between medical students and patients
Background Healthcare is increasingly complex, requiring physicians to collaborate with patients in meaningful, person-centered ways. Medical education therefore needs to prepare students for relational and collaborative practice. However, little is known about how sustained patient involvement shapes mutual learning and relational competencies, particularly early in medical education.
Implementation Barriers and Facilitators of an Integrated Care Initiative Targeting Socioeconomically Vulnerable Groups
Background The prevalence of prediabetes was found to be higher than previously estimated in the Netherlands, with approximately 21% of males and 15% of females between 40 and 75 years of age having prediabetes [1]. Prediabetes is characterised by elevated blood glucose levels that are not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes [2]. Around 70% of people with prediabetes develop type 2 diabetes within ten years [2, 3].

Osmoregulation in freshwater anaerobic methane oxidizing archaea under salt stress
Climate change-driven sea level rise threatens freshwater ecosystems and elicits salinity stress in microbiomes. Methane emissions in these systems are largely mitigated by methane-oxidizing microorganisms. Here, we characterized the physiological and metabolic response of freshwater methanotrophic archaea to salt stress. In our microcosm experiments, inhibition of methanotrophic archaea started at 1%.
How to successfully implement population health management: a scoping review
BMC Health Services Research, Aug 2023 Despite international examples, it is unclear for multisector initiatives which want to sustainably improve the health of a population how to implement Population Health Management (PHM) and where to start. Hence, the main purpose of this research is to explore current literature about the implementation of PHM and organising existing knowledge to better understand what needs to happen on which level to achieve which outcome.
How to coach student professional development during times of challenges and uncertainties
BMC Medical Education, Aug 2023 What we teach our (bio)medical students today may differ from the future context under which they will operate as health professionals. This shifting and highly demanding profession requires that we equip these students with adaptive competencies for their future careers. We aimed to develop a framework to promote and facilitate professional development from day one, guided by self-awareness and self-directed learning.
Turning Attention Inside Out: How Working Memory Serves Behavior
Annual Review of Psychology, Forthcoming 30 Pages Posted: 16 May 2022 Date Written: April 13, 2022 Abstract Flexible behaviour requires guidance not only by sensations that are available immediately but also by relevant mental contents carried forward through working memory. Therefore, selective-attention functions that modulate the contents of working memory to guide behaviour (“inside-out”) are just as important as those operating on sensory signals to generate internal contents (“outside-in”).
Neural Signatures of Competition between Voluntary and Involuntary Influences over the Focus of Attention in Visual Working Memory
Working memory refers to the ability to maintain and manipulate relevant information for the guidance of perception, thought, and action (D’Esposito & Postle, 2015; Baddeley, 1992).
