1 Introduction Abdominal wall transplantation provides a reconstructive solution for multivisceral transplant candidates with abdominal domain loss and extensive scarring [1-4]. This technique enables immediate closure, reducing morbidity from open abdomen management [3, 5, 6]. The cutaneous component allows for non-invasive rejection monitoring [7-10]. Since its advent, 38 patients have undergone this procedure [11-13].

A decentralized approach to diagnostics can decrease the time to treatment of infectious diseases in resource-limited settings, yet most modern diagnostic tools require stable electricity and are not portable. Here, we describe a portable device for isothermal nucleic acid quantification that can operate with power from electricity, sunlight or a flame, and that can store heat from intermittent energy sources for operation when electrical power is not available or reliable.
