Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

No

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Sagarika Ghosh

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To me, to be a journalist means listening, speaking, writing, and linking. It means embracing risks, inspiring, sharing what requires to be shared, always finding compassion and loving every second of what I do.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Don't have any preference. Although, to say, I prefer email pitches over other communication methods.

Why did you become a journalist?

I became a journalist because of two core reasons, the first one, it facinated me to another extent and the second one, I had already discovered my skills that can work for me to enter the journalism world. Moreover, I loved and love to play with my vocal (voice over, dubbing, mimicry, singing, rapping, etc.) and getting a journalism degree and working at a traditional news channel and then modern digital content world seemed the best way to become a journalist. I always loved to play just with my vocals until I found my greater skills in writing while I was pursuing mass communication and journalism. I love elements of journalism like gathering information and interviewing people, which I’m very good at. But while I've written hundreds of journalism articles, I consider myself a writer rather than a journalist. By that I imply that I write and have written several different sorts of contents viz. scripts, essays, material for companies, novels, poetries, and many more. When I'm writing those things, I am not a journalist. I still carry out several journalistic pieces, but primarily with the ideal extent of confidence, I think of myself as a Creative Content Writer. Sometimes journalism is the optimal means to convey a story, and sometimes other sorts of writing can communicate a story better. As I've been a freelance writer for 3 years, I can be many different types of writers during the same day viz. a copywriter, a novelist, an essayist, a journalist. They're all worthwhile and they're all dissimilar. The only thing, as a writer who gets on many hats, is to percieve the purpose of any kind of writing, and always act with honesty and morality.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

There're many to state as per readers' view but the best is yet to come for me.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Be original and loyal. Initially might fail, but that are the only elements that will help you stand out later.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Morning (10 A.M. to 12 P.M.) Evening (7 P.M. to 9 P.M.)

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Writing for the First Novel (Motivational Niche)

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Writing fake reviews and appreciation content for a notorious brand.

What's your favorite drink?

Mango Shake

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

On Phone or Paper

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Harper Collins (English) Bodhi Prakashan & Vani Prakashan (Hindi)
