My first mountain bike race of the season came and went a few weekends ago: The Durango Iron Horse in Durango, Colorado. My plan was to do the road race on Saturday and the mountain bike race on Sunday. And one look at my current crop of race gear in the garage told me it was time to upgrade for the sake of comfort and performance.

#1 · Travel Rigid = cool <120mm = uncool ≥120mm = cool This is the math I've learned here: Gearing Single Speed = cool ≤9 speeds = uncool ≥10 speeds = cool And a rigid singlespeed is the epitome of manhood, or something. According to this math, my bike would be a lot cooler if I took the 8sp drivetrain off, singlespeeded it, and replaced the 63mm fork I determined would be best for the riding I do, with a rigid fork of some sort.

#1 · I was watching a video that showed up on my reels on instagram. It was a lady from GMBN basically saying don't buy an Enduro bike just because it's on sale if you really need a Downcountry, or XC, or whatever it's being called these days bike. The woman got flamed in the comments by everyone saying basically that no one should be riding a mid travel bike, to paraphrase. Basically the "it's better to have just one bike to do it all theory I guess".
