Over 2,000 UK government-owned devices (laptops and phones), whose replacement would cost approximately GBP 1.3 million annually, were either lost or missing in a year, according to a recent news article. Devices with sensitive data are often well protected. However, all it takes is one unencrypted or compromised device to create a security nightmare.

Empire and travel are interconnected. By "empire" I refer to Western imperialism and their empires, both of old and its modern developments. European explorers who "discovered" civilizations outside of their continents after all shaped some of the earliest Western narratives about other parts of the world. The Western "gaze" interpreted these lands and people as being fundamentally and irredeemably different. Representations had a dose of real and imagined components.
