Introduction Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, demyelinating and neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system in which cortical grey matter lesions are commonly found.1–3 Due to their specificity for MS, cortical lesions were included in the diagnostic criteria.4 However, being highly inconspicuous on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences such as T2 and FLAIR,5,6 cortical lesions often remain undetected.
