She told her contact the victim had a fat chain and a watch. She said they could have the car and the watch. She said she wanted the wallet and the chain. Twenty-six minutes later, two men with guns showed up. On the evening of October 23, 2024, a 23-year-old man was sitting in his idling 2019 Dodge Challenger in the 5000 block of West Superior Street in the Austin neighborhood in the 15th District. Meliza Calderon, 23, of Des Plaines, was sitting beside him in the vehicle.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Shooting a 32-Year-Old and Hitting a Police Officer With His Car While Fleeing in South Chicago

He was arrested eight days later by the US Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. At approximately 9:44 p.m. on September 1, 2026, a verbal altercation broke out in the 8300 block of South Essex Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood in the 4th District. The argument turned physical. The offender pulled out a firearm and shot the 32-year-old man in the abdomen and grazed him on the side of his body.
