Thirty-five years ago, on August 27, 1991, Osun became one of Nigeria’s states, following the creation of the state by the military administration of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. Carved out of the old Oyo State, Osun emerged with Osogbo as its capital, beginning a new chapter in the political, economic and social administrations of an area whose history, however, stretches far beyond the creation of the Nigerian state. Osun is dynamically significant.
