Why Yemen has returned to conflict Original
The dormant conflict in Yemen has erupted once more, with the Houthi rebel group seizing control of the Red Sea port city of Mocha and a number of islands from Yemeni government forces in recent weeks. This has given the Houthis a foothold close to the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a key trade gateway linking Asia and Europe. The advance of the Houthis has alarmed Yemen’s northern neighbour, Saudi Arabia, for three main reasons.
How active have Iran’s proxy groups been since the start of the war?
One of the most notable aspects of the war in Iran so far has been the extent of Tehran’s isolation in the region. This has been exemplified not only by the widening divide between Iran and its Gulf Arab neighbours, but also by the highly variable responses to the conflict by Iran’s proxy groups. Iran has relied on a network of proxies to protect and bolster its position in the region since the earliest days of the Islamic Republic in 1979.
Terror against Israel: what is the right response?
In Turkey, almost all opposition parties and many associations have declared themselves "in solidarity with the Palestinian people." T24 believes they are oversimplifying the matter: “To stand by the Palestinian people, one must oppose both Hamas and the religious-fascist policies of the Netanyahu government. ... What has Hamas done to improve the lives of Gaza Strip residents during its control of Gaza? Everything it ever did only made life more difficult for the people.

Terror against Israel: how could this happen?
The Irish Times points to the desperate situation of the Palestinian population: “The statistics are as shocking as they are familiar - just under 50 per cent of the total Palestinian population are in need of humanitarian assistance. In Gaza, which has been subjected to a blockade since 2007, that figure increases to 80 per cent. Unemployment is rife and there is no freedom of movement. Israel prohibits Palestinians from leaving or entering Gaza except in extremely rare cases.
Yemen's Houthis – and why they're not simply a proxy of Iran
The attacks on oil production facilities at Abqaiq and Khurais in Saudi Arabia have drawn renewed focus on Yemen’s Houthi movement, which claimed responsibility for the strikes. Whether these claims are true or or not – the US and Saudi Arabia allege that Iran was more directly involved in the attacks – they underscore the transformation of the Houthi movement.
Yemen: a calamity at the end of the Arabian peninsula
At the tip of the Arabian peninsula, Yemen’s disastrous war has been raging for nearly two years. Somewhat overshadowed by the devastating crisis in Syria, it is nonetheless a major calamity: according to the UN, more than 10,000 people have lost their lives, while more than 20m (of a total population of some 27m) are in need of humanitarian assistance. More than 3m people are internally displaced, while hundreds of thousands have fled the country altogether.
