Wave-Kinetic Dynamics of Forced-Dissipated Turbulent Internal Gravity Waves
Internal gravity waves are an essential feature of stratified media, such as oceans and atmospheres. To investigate their dynamics, we perform simulations of the forced-dissipated kinetic equation describing the evolution of the energy spectrum of weakly nonlinear internal gravity waves.
Internal gravity waves in stratified flows with and without vortical modes
The comprehension of stratified flows is important for geophysical and astrophysical applications. The weak wave turbulence theory aims to provide a statistical description of internal gravity waves propagating in the bulk of such flows. However, internal gravity waves are usually perturbed by other structures present in stratified flow, namely the shear modes and the vortical modes.
Heat-flux fluctuations revealing regime transitions in Rayleigh-B\'enard convection
Abstract The study of the transitions among different regimes in thermal convection has been an issue of paramount importance in fluid mechanics. While the bifurcations at low Rayleigh number, when the flow is laminar or moderately chaotic, have been fully understood for a long time, transitions at higher Rayleigh number are much more difficult to be clearly identified.
