Eliza Ganss, 20, is studying at George Brown College to be a pastry chef. Although born to immigrant parents from Hungary and Germany, Ganss didn’t connect with either side of her heritage until she discovered it herself through the world of dance. Having been part of the Kodály Ensemble for almost five years, Ganss has taken on a variety of responsibilities that have brought her closer to the Hungarian culture and community here in Toronto.

On Feb. 11, United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order bringing back plastic straws, which the former president Joe Biden had aimed to phase out. In recent years, awareness of plastic pollution has been pushed to the forefront and many countries, including Canada, have begun to phase out and ban plastic products such as single-use plastic straws and cups. With Trump’s decision to bring such products back, here’s a look at Canada’s own laws and products.

The block between Sammon Avenue and Aldwych Avenue expropriated in new plan for building the Ontario Line along Pape Avenue. During a community meeting in January 2025, Metrolinx provided updated plans for the city’s new subway line, the Ontario Line, which is set to run from the Exhibition Place to the Science Centre. These plans included a new position for the rails.
