Biogeochemical characterization of micritized carbonate grains in the shallow‐marine Al‐Kharrar Lagoon (Red Sea, Saudi Arabia)

INTRODUCTION Carbonates undergo diagenetic alterations in shallow-marine environments due to mineralogical and geochemical disequilibria between fluid and solid phases (Fantle et al., 2020). These alterations, often observed through optical and electron microscopy, reveal the replacement of their original micro-textures by fine-grained mosaics of carbonate crystals, commonly described as cryptocrystalline (e.g. micritic) micro-textures (Kobluk & Risk, 1977; Reid et al., 1992; Flügel, 2010).
