Abstract Deregulation and globalization have sparked notable changes in the airport industry, leading to an increased emphasis on performance evaluations and benchmarking. Particularly, airport efficiency has garnered growing interest among academics, policymakers, and practitioners. Although the academic literature has paid considerable attention to the topic, knowledge of the efficiency levels of European airports and the factors shaping such efficiency remains limited.

IMPACT This study explores the relationship between SDG 13 performance and disclosure in Italian local governments (LGs) through an analysis of their official X accounts. The findings reveal that LGs with better SDG 13 performance are more likely to share climate-related information on social media, supporting the substantive approach to legitimacy. The article highlights the role of social media in sustainability disclosure.
