Results We enrolled 34 patients from the Amsterdam UMC outpatient post-COVID clinic based on World Health Organization definition. All participants had confirmed prior SARS-CoV-2 infection and were in good physical and mental health prior to infection. None of the individuals were hospitalized for COVID-19, and their symptoms persisted for a minimum of 6 months following the initial infection (Table 1).

1 Introduction While the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has officially ended, a substantial healthcare challenge persists as 5%–10% suffer from chronic symptoms after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This post-acute infectious disease condition, often referred to as “long COVID” (LC), is more often observed in females and can manifest through a wide range of symptoms [1, 2].
