Upsampling, oversampling, upconversion, supersampling, and upscaling are often used loosely in digital audio, but they are not all identical. In the broadest sense, they refer to processing a digital audio signal at a higher sample rate than the original source file or stream. That does not mean a DAC, streamer, CD player, or integrated amplifier is creating new musical information.
