Watershed-Scale Simulation of Hydrology and Carbon Cycling With Explicit Lake Representation
1 Introduction Although lakes cover only about 3% of the Earth's land surface (Downing et al., 2006; Verpoorter et al., 2014), their position within river networks allows them to interrupt major flow paths and regulate the timing and transformation of water and carbon. They serve not only as hydrological storage elements but also as active biogeochemical reactors (Bowling & Lettenmaier, 2010; Cole et al., 2007; Wang et al., 2024).

Hidden Vibrational Bistability Revealed by Intrinsic Fluctuations of a Carbon Nanotube
Nanoelectro-mechanical systems (NEMS) provide a means for studying physics away from thermal equilibrium in a well-characterized setting. (1) An important group of nonequilibrium phenomena originates from the interplay between nonlinearity and fluctuations in driven systems, which can modify the frequency stability, (2−6) the power spectrum, (7,8) lead to spectral broadening, (9) and thermal noise squeezing.
ZIF-8-based electrodes with confined intercalation properties for sodium-ion supercapacitors
Currently, environmental pollution and climate warming resulting from fossil fuel consumption have become the focus of widespread global attention. It is crucial to build a low-carbon society based on green energy [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. However, due to the intermittency of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and tidal energy. it is imperative to create energy storage technologies that are safe, effective, and stable.

Sc(OTf)3-catalyzed diastereoselective [4 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of 3-benzylideneindoline-2-thiones with alkylidene malonates
In summary, the diastereoselective [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions of alkylidene malonates with 3-benzylideneindoline-2-thiones as sulfur-containing four-atom building blocks have been successfully achieved via Sc(OTf) catalysis. The present methodology not only enables the facile synthesis of indole-annulated thiopyran derivatives but also expands the scope of synthetic transformations of 3-benzylideneindoline-2-thiones. However, the initial attempt at enantioselective [4 + 2] cycloaddition

Characterising flame-retardant mechanism of phosphorous-containing intumescent coating on polyethylene via ReaxFF MD simulations
Over the years, flame retardant (FR) coating has been continuously developed as it can be conveniently applied on surfaces of combustible polymer substrates. Alternative approach using facile coating has been developed to effectively hinder pyrolysis and reduce flammability without sacrificing most of the intrinsic properties of the polymer substrates [1]. The advantage of this coating method is its straightforwardness, which brings along versatility in both research and industry sectors.

Momentum-independent magnetic excitation continuum in the honeycomb iridate H3LiIr2O6 - Nature Communications
Abstract Understanding the interplay between the inherent disorder and the correlated fluctuating-spin ground state is a key element in the search for quantum spin liquids. H3LiIr2O6 is considered to be a spin liquid that is proximate to the Kitaev-limit quantum spin liquid. Its ground state shows no magnetic order or spin freezing as expected for the spin liquid state. However, hydrogen zero-point motion and stacking faults are known to be present.
Nonlinear nanomechanical resonators approaching the quantum ground state - Nature Physics
Abstract It is an open question whether mechanical resonators can be made nonlinear with vibrations approaching the quantum ground state. This requires the engineering of a mechanical nonlinearity far beyond what has been realized so far. Here we discover a mechanism to boost the Duffing nonlinearity by coupling the vibrations of a nanotube resonator to single-electron tunnelling and by operating the system in the ultrastrong-coupling regime.

Atomistic deformation mechanism of silicon under laser-driven shock compression - Nature Communications
Abstract Silicon (Si) is one of the most abundant elements on Earth, and it is the most widely used semiconductor. Despite extensive study, some properties of Si, such as its behaviour under dynamic compression, remain elusive. A detailed understanding of Si deformation is crucial for various fields, ranging from planetary science to materials design.

M559 SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT AND STEROID SPARING USING OMALIZUMAB FOR BULLOUS PEMPHIGOID REQUIRING PREDNISONE AND INTRAVENOUS IMMUNOGLOBULIN
Introduction Prednisone is often used first-line for extensive bullous pemphigoid (BP), but limited by comorbidities and adverse effects. Concomitant liver disease further limits steroid sparing options. In these circumstances, alternatives are few, such as tetracyclines, IVIG, and biologics. More recently, the pathogenicity of IgE autoantibodies has emerged and its blockade as a therapeutic target using omalizumab has been successfully described.
M557 SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT AND COMPLETE STEROID SPARING USING OMALIZUMAB IN BULLOUS PEMPHIGOID MASQUERADING AS REFRACTORY URTICARIA
Introduction The classic form of bullous pemphigoid (BP) presents with widespread tense bullae; however, early presentations of BP can be non-specific: pruritus alone, eczema, or urticaria. Prednisone is the typical first-line treatment for extensive disease.
M558 STEROID SPARING BENEFIT OF OMALIZUMAB IN A PATIENT WITH BULLOUS PEMPHIGOID AND METASTATIC SALIVARY CANCER
Prednisone and conventional immunosuppressants such as mycophenolate mofetil are commonly employed in treatment of extensive bullous pemphigoid (BP). However, broad immunosuppression is undesirable in the setting of malignancy. Traditionally, IgG autoantibodies were the focus of this condition, but more recently, the pathogenicity of IgE autoantibodies has emerged and its blockade as a therapeutic target using omalizumab has been successfully described.
Gene-environment interactions between air pollution and biotransformation enzymes and risk of birth defects | Environmental Health Perspectives | Vol. 2020, No. 1
Gene-environment interactions between air pollution and biotransformation enzymes and risk of birth defects Abstract Background: Genetic factors and environmental factors have been observed to influence risks for birth defects. Few studies have investigated gene-environment interactions that could contribute to birth defects.
Long noncoding RNA PART1 restrains aggressive gastric cancer through the epigenetic silencing of PDGFB via the PLZF-mediated recruitment of EZH2
Abstract Current reports refer to the role of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) prostate androgen-regulated transcript 1 (PART1) as a tumor suppressor in some types of cancer but as an oncogene in other kinds of cancer. In gastric cancer, it had been reported to be downregulated. However, the clinical significance and underlying mechanism of PART1 function in gastric cancer remains undefined.

Cooling and self-oscillation in a nanotube electromechanical resonator
Abstract Nanomechanical resonators are used with great success to couple mechanical motion to other degrees of freedom, such as photons, spins and electrons1,2. The motion of a mechanical eigenmode can be efficiently cooled into the quantum regime using photons2,3,4, but not other degrees of freedom. Here, we demonstrate a simple yet powerful method for cooling, amplification and self-oscillation using electrons.

Fibrosis‐4 index predicts cirrhosis risk and liver‐related mortality in 2075 patients with chronic HBV infection
During a mean follow‐up period of 15.47 years, we found a higher baseline FIB‐4 index was associated with increased incidence rates of cirrhosis in addition to the common host and viral factors. Patients with FIB‐4 >1.29, compared to those with FIB‐4 <1.29, were associated with increased risks of cirrhosis, cirrhosis‐related complications and liver‐related mortality with the hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) of 6.19 (4.76‐8.05), 6.88, (3.68‐12.86) and 7.79, (4.54‐13.37) respectively.
