One of the aftereffects of Covid and the mad rush to work from home was the fast adoption of cloud-based services. Those companies that could afford to create vast VPN networks maintained their traditional boundaries but many had to compromise and accept the risk of allowing employees to connect directly to cloud-based services.

Have you noticed the number of cloud-based file shares that exist in the world today? Thousands of them have popped up and continue to emerge weekly as vendors expand their offerings to make their tools more comprehensive and give consumers more options. As bad actors, who continue to design ways to intercept and steal company data as it moves to those cloud-based services pop up, the industry is countering that activity with protocols and services to thwart “man-in-the-middle” attacks.

Recently, I had a potential customer ask me to look into my crystal ball (more of a Magic 8 Ball) and tell them what I see as the future of data protection. To understand the future, you need to first look at and understand the here and now.
