A dramatic Atlantic dissolution event at the onset of the last glaciation
Abstract [1] Measurements of the CaCO3 content of the CaCO3 size index and of foraminifera weights demonstrate that a prominent dissolution event occurred in the western equatorial Atlantic at the onset of the last glacial period. The decrease in CO3= ion concentration appears to have been too large to be accounted for by the ocean acidification associated with the demise of excess interglacial biomass.
Climatic change: are we on the brink of a pronounced global warming?
If man-made dust is unimportant as a major cause of climatic change, then a strong case can be made that the present cooling trend will, within a decade or so, give way to a pronounced warming induced by carbon dioxide. By analogy with similar events in the past, the natural climatic cooling which, since 1940, has more than compensated for the carbon dioxide effect, will soon bottom out.

Remembering Climate Pioneer Dr. Wallace Broecker
Professor Wallace Broecker has died at the age of 87. He spent his entire career at Columbia University, the bulk of it with the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory in Rockland County, NY. He had diverse research interests, starting with carbon-14 chemistry, but he eventually focused on climate science and oceanography. In 1975, he helped bring into the mainstream a two-word phrase that would forever change history: Global Warming.

Human-induced changes in the distribution of rainfall
A likely consequence of global warming will be the redistribution of Earth’s rain belts, affecting water availability for many of Earth’s inhabitants. We consider three ways in which planetary warming might influence the global distribution of precipitation. The first possibility is that rainfall in the tropics will increase and that the subtropics and mid-latitudes will become more arid.

Lamont-Doherty Dedicates New Geochemistry Facility
Lamont-Doherty Dedicates New Geochemistry Facility At the heart of any research endeavor is the quality and capacity of the facility that supports data generation and facilitates scientific understanding. With this in mind, in June 2004, Gary C. Comer, founder of Lands’ End and friend of Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory geochemist Wallace Broecker, offered to help construct what is now known as the Gary C. Comer Geochemistry Building.
The Best Books on Science and Climate Change
Let’s start with your first book, Fixing Climate: The Story of Climate Science – and How to Stop Global Warming by Robert Kunzig and Wallace S Broecker. One of the reasons for picking this book is that Wally Broecker is my guru. He has been a friend for nearly 40 years and is a big influence on my life.
