Walter Bowne’s Biography

Walter Bowne is not your average English instructor. With a quarter-century of teaching experience spanning high school and college classrooms, he's part educator, part humorist, and full-time word wrangler. Armed with degrees from Rowan University and Arcadia University, and literary adventures that took him as far as Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Walter has transformed countless student lives through the power of language, laughter, and learning.

He now teaches English at East Stroudsburg University. He was an English teacher for twenty-five years, but could not retire from the classroom, but has revved up the writing.

A prolific writer with over 597 published pieces, Walter's work has graced the pages of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Stories, Chicago Tribune, and numerous literary magazines. His wit has found homes in publications like The Satirist, British Humour, and MuddyUm, where humor meets insight. When he's not crafting hilarious essays or guiding students through the intricacies of American literature, he's podcasting, lecturing on YouTube, and proving that English professors can be both scholarly and seriously funny.

Walter brings his unique blend of academic rigor and comedic timing to everything he does. Lamentations of a Trophy Husband is the first of what he hopes to be a book a month (as he has stored up too much material as a teacher under a “gag” order not to write what may “harm children.”

His work promises to be a laugh-out-loud journey through the absurdities of modern life, filtered through the lens of a teacher who's seen it all and lived to write about it. So buckle up for a wild ride through Walter Bowne's world—where education meets entertainment, and every page turn is a lesson in laughter.

He literally, and figuratively, lives in two states, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with his wife of almost thirty years, Mary Jane. They have two daughters in graduate school.

The family proudly “owns” thirty-two goldfish in the outside pond, now frozen, but with a heater to keep a hole for the oxygen. It’s all about the oxygen.
