Walter Bowne is not your average English instructor. With a quarter-century of teaching experience spanning high school and college classrooms, he's part educator, part humorist, and full-time word wrangler. Armed with degrees from Rowan University and Arcadia University, and literary adventures that took him as far as Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Walter has transformed countless student lives through the power of language, laughter, and learning.

What the Spider Knows There’s a complexity to the world that is just so beyond us, found in the smallest little things while we get so occupied with our big brains as human beings. I’m sitting here by the pond, dictating some notes on my novel, celebrating what’s unfolding right in front of me. She moves like an acrobat — this spider weaving her crazy web between the mountain laurel at the edge of the pond and the grasses on the other side, then back again to the rocks.

This may seem strange, but my cousin Larry — Dr. Larry, an ER doc, very smart guy — just messaged me about Ozzy Osbourne. That’s how I found out Ozzy. And I just stopped and thought — fuck, oh. And then two things hit me at once. First, I thought of my Uncle Ron. I was six years old. He called me his Little Kromitz. He was a James Joyce at inventive language. It was 1975 — five years after Paranoid came out, Black Sabbath’s second album. And man, I was horrified. I was scared of my own shadow back then.
