Abstract This study focuses on the stabilization of two-dimensional (2-D) switched systems utilizing the Fornasini-Marchesini local state-space model. Without any controller, by designing a set of switching signals subject to weighted average dwell time approach, the 2-D switched systems with all subsystems unstable could be stabilized. The weighted average dwell time approach used in this paper is more effective than mode-dependent dwell time and average dwell time used in other literature.

1. Introduction Two-dimensional (2-D) systems whose states depend on two independent variables, which play an important role in air drying, seismographic data processing, digital signal processing, and so on [1,2], have attracted the attention of many scholars over the past decade. Many essential results of 2-D switched systems have been proposed such as stability analysis [3,4,5,6], H ∞ control [7], dissipative control [8,9,10,11], filtering problems [12,13], and fault detection problems [14].
