Calculation of Flood Control and Drainage Benefits of Levee Projects Considering Socio-Economic Changes
1 Introduction With the rapid advancement of urbanization, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, the risk of riverine flooding has significantly intensified (Blöschl et al., 2019; Chen et al., 2020; Iliopoulou et al., 2019; Liu et al., 2022). Furthermore, climate change has exacerbated these risks by amplifying the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events (Pörtner et al., 2022; Wang et al., 2023; Yin et al., 2018).

High-precision automated grading of flue-cured tobacco leaves based on hierarchical feature fusion
Abstract Accurate grading of flue-cured tobacco leaves is crucial for tobacco quality control and industrial applications. However, traditional manual grading is subjective, inefficient, and labor-intensive, while existing deep learning-based methods often fail to capture multi-scale complementary features, leading to limited grading precision.

Editorial: Integrated strategies for lifelong health: multidimensional approaches to aging and lifestyle interventions
The irreversible global trend of population aging is reshaping our social fabric with unprecedented force and posing severe challenges to public health systems. Traditional research on healthy aging has often focused on single diseases or isolated physiological systems. However, aging is inherently a complex, multidimensional, and dynamic lifelong process, intricately woven from the interplay of biological, psychological, social, behavioral, and environmental factors.

Ace2 mutation disrupts amino acid absorption, impairs growth, and alters microbiota dynamics in zebrafish - Communications Biology
Abstract Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (Ace2) is a well-studied enzyme with important physiological functions in mammals. However, its roles in non-mammalian animals remain largely unexplored. This study investigates the function of Ace2 in zebrafish using CRISPR/Cas9-generated ace2 mutants (−/−). The ace2−/− mutants exhibited significant growth retardation with reduced body length and weight. High ace2 expression was found in the intestine, indicating its importance in gut function.
Vitellogenin receptor mediates heat adaptability of oocyte development in mud crabs and zebrafish - Nature Communications
Abstract Climate-driven warming affects the reproduction of oviparous ectotherms. However, whether oviparous ectotherms possess a protection mechanism against heat stress for oocyte development, which is essential for maintaining the continuity of animal populations, is largely unknown. Under high temperatures, female mud crabs (Scylla paramamosain) typically have well-formed ovaries, while a few crabs were found to experience oocyte development failure.

Remote Sensing | Free Full-Text | Iterative Signal Detection and Channel Estimation with Superimposed Training Sequences for Underwater Acoustic Information Transmission in Time-Varying Environments
1. Introduction With the development of information technology, wireless communication technology is no longer limited to the terrestrial. While information technology now extends from terrestrial to aerial spaces to facilitate novel user services, underwater wireless communications (UWC), unfortunately, have been neglected [1]. The main limitation to space–air–ground–ocean (SAGO) information transmission is the UWC technology.
Simulation of fluid‐structure interaction using the boundary data immersion method with adaptive mesh refinement
The fluid-structure interaction is simulated using the boundary data immersion method. As the fluid-structure interface is smeared in the smoothing region, deviations are incurred in fluid simulations. For compressible flow, high order difference schemes with more mesh cells for the stencils are usually employed to achieve high overall accuracy, but near interfaces it requires wider smoothing region of several mesh cells for computational stability and hence lowers its accuracy significantly.

Stanniocalcin 1a regulates organismal calcium balance and survival by suppressing Trpv6 expression and inhibiting IGF signaling in zebrafish
Introduction Stanniocalcins (Stcs) are evolutionarily conserved glycoproteins. The first Stc protein was discovered from the Corpuscles of Stannius (CS), an endocrine organ unique to bony fish (1, 2). Surgical removal of CS resulted in elevated blood calcium levels and the appearance of kidney stones (3–5). Injection of CS extracts or purified Stc1 reversed these effects (6). In cultured rainbow trout CSs, secretion of Stc1 was found to be regulated by external Ca2+ levels ([Ca2+]) (6).

A Low-Illumination Enhancement Method Based on Structural Layer and Detail Layer
1. Introduction With the development of electronic devices, digital images have played an important role in our lives. They are widely used in fields such as traffic management, medicine [1], satellite remote sensing, and target recognition and tracking. However, the complexity of the shooting environment often leads to low-quality phenomena, such as low recognition, color distortion, and loss of details. Due to the low quality of images, subsequent computer vision tasks become difficult.

A new experimental method to measure and calculate the tensile strength of concrete
1 Introduction The tensile strength of concrete is substantially less than its compressive strength. Cracks in concrete easily propagate under tension, which can affect its service life and durability (Bhanja and Sengupta, 2005; Ge et al., 2022). A large number of laboratory studies have evaluated the tensile strength of concrete using three main methods: direct tensile tests; beam flexural tests; and splitting tensile tests (Rashid, et al., 2002; Lu and Li, 2011).

1 Introduction Water conservancy is closely related to people’s livelihoods and function as a key factor in promoting regional economic development, ensuring industrial production, and improving living standards. While water conservancy projects hold a pivotal position in the realm of infrastructure development, they also encounter numerous risks and challenges throughout their preparatory, construction, and operational stages (Wu et al., 2021; Ge et al., 2022).
