(S)-Rivastigmine is a carbamate type acetylcholinesterase inhibitor for treatment of moderate Alzheimer disease and dementia (Polinsky, 1998). It can inhibit the activity of cholinesterase in the nervous system and enhance surviving cholinergic neurotransmission (Bar-On et al., 2002, Reading et al., 2001). N-ethyl-methyl-carbamic acid-3[(1S)-hydroxy-ethyl]-phenyl ester ((S)-NEMCA-HEPE) (Sethi et al., 2013) is a key chiral intermediate for synthesis of (S)-Rivastigmine.
