Our earlier studies have shown that GOS increases the production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO and TNF-? in RAW264.7 cells19. However, endotoxin (LPS) is also an effective inducer of inflammatory mediators. Thus, to eliminate potential false-positive results caused by endotoxin contamination, the GOS used in the current study was purified using an endotoxin-removal column.
