Two historical markers in downtown Decatur were damaged this month — one struck by an 18-wheeler, the other still under investigation as local historians question whether vandalism played a role in the African American Heritage marker's destruction. Local historian Peggy Towns said she was driving through Northwest Decatur on Friday when she noticed a historical marker had been forcibly removed from its metal post at the corner of Vine Street Northwest and Sycamore Street.

Decatur man facing domestic violence charges after alleged attack on woman

Mar. 24—A Decatur man was arrested last week and is being charged with second degree domestic violence after allegedly attacking the mother of his children, according to the Decatur Police Department. Police said on Wednesday, officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at the 2900 block of Lynnwood Circle Southwest and encountered a female resident suffering from a wound to the head.
