Bill to limit self-checkout kiosks heads to RI House vote

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island appears poised to pass minimum staffing levels for self-checkout lanes, solely at grocery stores. The substitute of S2342, which has already passed the Senate, is scheduled for a House vote on June 10. A version of the bill has been kicking around since 2023, initially introduced by Rep. Megan Cotter, D-Exeter. When the Senate passed the bill in May, it dropped the required manning level of one manned checkout lane to every three self-checkout lanes.
