What was your first job as a journalist?
I got my start covering local punk shows for a zine, then expanded to live country music events and general daily news.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Absolutely! Of course I've been writing since I was a kid in the 80's so I used the stone and chisel available to me at the time.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I once got caught in tornado weather at a Rocklahoma festival
When's the best time to pitch you?
By noon I've sorted and cleared the fluff and I'm already writing my pieces for the day. If you want same-day it's best to send early.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
There's no "worst pitch" to me, only misplaced pitches. I only work in country music... everything else is for fun.
What's your favorite drink?
That one should be obvious, but on a deeper level I'm finding rye whiskey is taking the lead away from straight bourbon these days.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That country music fans don't consume digital content. They absolutely do... it's the artists themselves that are slow to adapt.
