Shut down the shutdowns: Congress’s chaos addiction is costing you
Funding the government on time was once the most basic thing Congress did. Today, it has become one of the hardest. Shutdown brinkmanship has turned routine appropriations into a recurring hostage crisis, the threats facing the country are multiplying, and with a consequential midterm election ahead, no one can assume the next Congress will be any steadier than this one. In a moment this volatile, a government that cannot reliably fund itself is a reality the country cannot afford.
Lankford in The Hill: “Congress Can End Government Shutdowns and Partisan Brinksmanship”
WASHINGTON, DC — US Senator James Lankford (R-OK) recently wrote a column in The Hill about his Prevent Government Shutdowns Act of 2025. Read it below or find it in The Hill HERE. Yet in modern Washington, Congress increasingly treats budgeting as an inconvenience rather than a duty. That abdication is not a mystery. It reflects incentives that reward delay, diffuse accountability, and replace deliberate governance with crisis management.
Our government is broken — we have a plan to fix it Original
The current government shutdown is the just latest reminder of what Americans already know: the federal government is dysfunctional. Nowhere is this more evident than in Congress, where a broken budget process and a steady erosion of legislative authority have made responsible governance increasingly difficult. Every year, Washington lurches from one budget crisis to another, repeatedly dragging our nation to the brink of shutdown, the threat of which is used as political leverage.
Bidenomics has been a disaster for Alaskans
By BETHANY MARCUM AND WILL BURGER Bidenomics, which has been hindering American prosperity and growth for going on four years, has made it all the way to the Last Frontier, and Alaskans are feeling the pain. The president’s solution to the high inflation, slow growth, and economic unease he abetted is to keep doing what he’s been doing – hammering the same policies that caused the problems in the first place.
