Shiva Naipaul Memorial Prize (Short-Listed)
2012 - Long form, narrative non-fiction
The Shiva Naipaul Prize has been awarded annually by The Spectator magazine since 1987. Past recipients include Hilary Mantel and many other eminent writers in fiction, narrative-non fiction. Other recipients include individuals involved in British political life and commentary, as the magazine's previous editor was British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The current acting editor is Mary Wakefield, wife of Dominic Cummings. Named after the late great Trinidadian author and brother of VS Naipaul, the prize celebrates essay writing on travel, but not in the conventional sense.
