SAVANNAH, Georgia -- Former Harlem Globetrotter and Chatham County Commission District 2 Commissioner Larry "Gator" Rivers died Saturday morning, according to Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis. Ellis, reached by phone Saturday, said he was spending time with Rivers' family. Ellis confirmed Rivers had been battling cancer, which he said was the cause of Rivers' death and the reason for his recent absences from county commission meetings.
