Train driver Shaun Burton © British Transport Police The Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough has paid tribute to train driver Shaun Burton, who died in Friday's train collision near Bedford. Paul Bristow said he was 'devastated' to hear of Mr Burton's death, describing him as a well-loved colleague and member of the community whose loss had prompted an outpouring of tributes from those who had worked with him.

The Government has intervened in a £500m proposal to build a data centre at the historic Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, after Tower Hamlets Council rejected the scheme. Housing Secretary Steve Reed called in the application during a public planning inquiry in October last year and is expected to make a final decision in August. The move means Reed can overrule the council's refusal.

A £97m Government investment in fire and rescue assets will help take pressure off local services as wildfire incidents continue to grow, the Government has announced. The funding will deliver the largest scale upgrade of National Resilience assets in almost twenty years, covering new off-road vehicles and specialist equipment.
