New York’s Charging Station Legislation Paves the Way for More Electric Vehicles | JD Supra Original
As of the date of publication, New York has 155,988 registered EVs and 9,739 public charging ports. That number needs to increase substantially if New York State is to meet its Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) goal of 850,000 EVs by 2025. The four bills below seek to assuage a significant fear many individuals have when deciding to purchase an EV – “range anxiety” – or concern for the distance an EV can travel on a charge.
New York’s Charging Station Legislation Paves the Way for More Electric Vehicles
Summary In an effort to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) usage, New York’s Legislature passed four vehicle charging infrastructure bills this session that are awaiting action by Governor Kathy Hochul. Under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), New York State has some of the nation’s most aggressive clean energy mandates, including requiring all new passenger cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs sold in New York to be zero-emission by 2035.
New York City’s Congestion Pricing Program Moves Forward | JD Supra
The nation’s first variable tolling program in a central business district (CBD) reached a new milestone, bringing New York City’s MTA closer to its goal of launching congestion pricing in Manhattan by the second quarter of 2024. Under the MTA’s Central Business District Tolling Program (Program), vehicles traveling in parts of Manhattan south of 60th Street would be charged a variable toll.
Alternative Project Delivery Methods Authorized for Repairs at 25,000 NYC Public Housing Units | JD Supra
The New York State Legislature continued its support for the expanded use of design-build, along with approving additional alternative delivery methods, by passing the New York City Public Housing Preservation Trust Act (Act).
New York State Open Meetings Law Amendments Effective November 18, 2021 | JD Supra
New York State public bodies subject to the Open Meetings Law must now post on their website, or provide upon request, “at least 24 hours” prior to any public meetings, any documents that will be discussed or considered during those public meetings. Under Chapter 481 of the Law of 2021, language allowing documents to be released for the first time “at” a public meeting has been stricken.
Few realize how big Texas' energy miracle really is
For all the talk about the urgent need for a green energy revolution, few seem to have noticed that one is quietly underway already in an unlikely place. Since 1999, when Texas implemented voluntary renewable energy targets, the state has installed nearly 15,000 turbines, increasing its wind energy capacity from just 116 megawatts in 2000 to nearly 29,000 in 2018. It’s no accident that Texas has produced more than one quarter of America’s wind energy for each of the past three years.
The American Medical Association Flirts with Socialized Medicine | National Review
(Pixabay) It’s on the verge of fully abandoning the message it once pushed with Ronald Reagan. It was surely one of the oddest LPs ever cut. Featuring a former movie star by then more familiar from television, the 1961 record was released by the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation’s foremost doctors’ group.
AMA misses the mark in its commentary on new Title X rules
On Friday, the Trump Administration released new regulations affecting the low income family planning and preventative health services program known as Title X. The final rule takes an important step towards bringing the program into compliance with long-standing federal policy prohibiting the expenditure of federal funds on abortion services, and also safeguards the ability of physicians to practice medicine in accordance with the dictates of their own consciences.
Nearly Four In Five College Departments Don’t Employ One Republican
To set foot on an American college campus, as anyone who’s spent a picosecond thereabout lately can tell you, is to step through a left-wing looking glass. But a jaw-dropping new study from the National Association of Scholars (NAS) reveals just how deep the rabbit hole goes: among tenure-track college professors at the nation’s top-ranked liberal arts schools, registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by more than 10 to 1.
The Washington Post Sure Does Love Dumb Clickbait Headlines These Days Via @dailycaller
The Washington Post recently broke news that was quickly hailed as the Trump administration’s latest turn at jackbooted thuggery: the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Post then reported (and later walked back), has been banned from using seven terms in documents related to the president’s next budget request. Some words — “fetus,” “transgender” — evoke thorny political disputes, while others, like “science-based,” seem largely unobjectionable.
A purple Texas? Not so fast
Turns out Alice Walker fans aren’t the only ones who can’t get enough of the color purple these days. Much ink has been spilled of late averring the Lone Star State’s impending transition to the royal tint. Ought these pronouncements be believed? Or is this little more than grasping at demographic straws? Texas remains the largest Republican bulwark against the blue wall, so one can hardly overstate the significance of this political soothsaying for each party’s electoral fortunes.
Don't let minors buy tobacco in Texas
As a physician-in-training at a public institution in Texas, I am keenly aware that my medical education is generously subsidized by Texas taxpayers. So when proposals come before our Legislature that can dramatically improve the health of my benefactors, I pay attention. A bill introduced this session could do exactly that: Senate Bill 910, and its companion, House Bill 1908, aim to raise the minimum legal purchase age for tobacco products to 21 years.
