Empowering Choices in Uncertain Times
In a world filled with anxiety and uncertainty, individuals can reclaim their power through personal empowerment and intentional choices. Despite external chaos, focusing on peace, gratitude, and positive qualities can transform one's experience and influence the collective environment, fostering a healthier future for all. What causes anxiety and uncertainty in the current climate? How can personal empowerment shift perceptions of control?
The mobile driver's license is hitting its tipping point — states just need to give it a shove
The driver's license became America's identity card by accident. It was meant to prove you could drive; it ended up proving you're who you say you are at the bank, the bar, the airport and more. Now, the plastic card is getting a digital upgrade. It's the same license, issued by the state, but in an unfakeable digital format, finally fit to really prove identity in the online age.
Our comments to NIST: AI agent security starts with human identity verification
AI agents have developed advanced capabilities faster than most would have imagined. In enterprise contexts, workforces are delegating more and more tasks to them. While the promise of increased productivity is enticing, the shift from deterministic automated tools to agentic autonomous systems introduces security risks that most enterprises haven’t prepared for.
Regulators are holding back secure digital identity verification
American banks are drowning in data but still losing the fight against fraud . They spend billions on identity verification procedures that cost $15 to $30 per customer, multiplied across tens of millions of account openings, yet fraud losses...
Transforming Worries into Visionary Solutions
This article explores the pivotal role of inner dialogue in shifting focus from problems to solutions. By utilizing techniques like 'pattern interrupts' and embracing the concept of 'and,' individuals can foster a vision that acknowledges challenges while opening up new possibilities for action and growth. What is the issue with excessive worrying? How can inner dialogue influence problem-solving? What techniques can shift focus from problems to solutions?
America needs a digital identity strategy Original
The internet was built to connect machines, not people. Its basic architecture maps servers to domain names and uses cryptographic certificates to prove websites are authentic. Yet it lacks a built-in way to bridge the gap between our offline identities — citizen, taxpayer, patient, employee, student — and the digital systems on which we increasingly rely to conduct our economic, civic, and personal lives.
They Know … and They Don’t Care
I recently enjoyed an invigorating discussion with Hrvoje Morić of Geopolitics & Empire about the cruelites’, philanthropaths’, and tyrants’ multifacetedagendaforusordinaryfolk and whatwecandoaboutit. This called to mind a captivating conversation I had with fellow SubstackerWill T Wilkinson when we met up last fall, thanks to an introduction by Bill Kauth, a reader some of you may recall attended my belovedMichael’s funeral with his lovely wife, Zoe Alowan.
Awakening From the Spell of Disempowerment
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? ~ Mary Oliver F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote: “True intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing thoughts and remain functional.” He was right. It’s easier to polarize to one position and get stuck there. What if we could experience unconditional love, not as perfection but presence? Imagine being fully present, able to welcome everything with gratitude, even the inevitable suffering of this human world.
Dying to Live: Is Now A Good Day to Die?
Image by Mike from Pixabay Benjamin Franklin is credited with originating the phrase: “The only two sure things are death and taxes.” This does a disservice to death because some people can avoid paying taxes but none of us can avoid death.
Fatboy Slim at the Eden Sessions 2024
Fatboy Slimhas graced prestigious stages across the globe, including more than 17 consecutive years at Glastonbury, Coachella, Sziget Festival and the London 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony. His live shows are known for their high energy, unforgettable curation and visuals. But if you ever dreamt of the perfect place for Fatboy Slim to perform, the Eden Project with it bowl shaped arena and illuminated domes sitting amongst a tranquil setting of exotic plants and flowers this would be it.

Image by Dong Nhut Tran Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self. Unless we change, things will remain the same. So unless you're 100% satisfied with the status of your life and the world, then things need to change... you need to change... we all need to change. We need to rethink how we do things, how we see things, how we communicate, how we listen, how we everything. It's time for an overhaul to get rid of the clutter we've accumulated in our minds since we were born...
Solutions R Us and We R Solutions
Image by Eluj from Pixabay Problems. They’re everywhere. In our personal lives, in the world all around us. Who’s got solutions? Many problems seem impossible to solve, like conflict in the Middle East and the Ukraine. Climate change. Economic disparity. Gender confusion. We hear about them every day. Solutions? Not so much. Then there are all the personal problems. Health and financial and relationship issues. You could customize your own list.

Image by PDPics Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self. Our life is aa adventure... from the moment we are born (or from the moment we, as a soul consciousness, enter the baby in the womb), we are on a journey. It is a road that we have been on for a long time, and this moment, this now, is another segment of the road... We encounter challenges, decisions to be made, forks in the road that give us no clue as to which one is "the best".
Exiting the See-Do Bypass: Get Ready, Get Set, Go!
Watch the video version on YouTube The phrase “Get ready, get set, GO!” describes a formula for effective living. We screw things up when we leave out the middle step, by getting trapped on what I call the “see-do bypass.” We know we’re stuck on the see-do bypass when we skip the “get set” step to plunge immediately from awareness to action. Or, when we endure situations we don’t enjoy but feel powerless to change them.

The New Currency of Life: Manna
It’s easy to blame money for all the world’s problems, at least greed for money. Pick any problem and we can usually “follow the money” to discover what’s causing it. The economy: obscene disparity between super rich and starving masses, Health/sick care: money made from suffering, suppression of simple home remedies. Politics: lying, manipulating voters, maintaining and increasing control. The environment: routinely releasing toxins and hiding the harmful effects. The Solutions?

Image by Silvia from Pixabay Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self The song popularized by Frank Sinatra "My Way" famously states" "I did it my way". We all do it "our way" in whatever we do. We can't help but do it "our way" even when we are possibly trying to mimic others, or follow the "in" thing. Because it is coming from us, it has a different note, a different energy than if it was coming from anyone else. We are all, after all, unique.

Image by Living Frames Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self. It's a new year... for some that means "same old, same old". Yet some of us use the opportunity to get a fresh start... "out with the old, and in with the new". Out with the old harmful habits and attitudes, and in with the new attitudes and actions that are more in keeping with our vision of a better life, or a better world.
How To Create a Happy New Year
Image by Iván Dequito “Happy New Year.” “Happy New Year to you too.” This is what we say, every year. And what does it mean? Usually, about as much as “How are you?” “Fine, how are you?” “Fine, thanks.” What if we meant it this year, that we really intended to make 2024 a happy new year and that we did something to make that happen, rather than just mouthing empty words?

Hearts on Fire: Maui -- The Heart Center of Our World
This is the giant Banyan tree in Lahaina, Maui. It shades a city block. It’s been burned but not destroyed in the fire that has leveled Lahaina, the cultural capital of Hawaii for over 300 years. There are untold numbers of dead and burn victims, thousands of homes and businesses have been incinerated … this is a tragedy unparalleled since the 1960 tsunami. This is much more than a local catastrophe.

The Eden Sessions 2023
The star, whose classic hits include Hello, Dancing on the Ceiling and All Night Long, played two sell-out shows at Eden in July 2016. The concerts were hailed as among the greatest in the history of the Sessions. His song catalogue also includes his early work with The Commodores, where he developed a ground-breaking style that defied genre categories, penning smashes such as Three Times a Lady, Still, and Easy.

"Who are they?" is a question many of us ask when wondering who's behind the curtain pulling the strings. Many a book and film have been written about that intrigue and the truth is probably even more mysterious. "Where are they?" is the question a friend asked as we discussed corruption in politics and agreed that real leaders have personal integrity and are guided by a commitment to public service, not by personal agendas or doing the bidding of their financial backers.

Stereophonics round off Eden Sessions
The unmistakable sound of the Stereophonics is underpinned by the signature voice of front man Kelly Jones. They are one of the UK’s most enduring and loved bands and with their latest album, Jones continues to cement his place among the great British songwriters. Special guests for the night’s show were Himalayas, a four-piece rock band from Cardiff who have spent the last few years honing their sound and style.

The Three Stages of Conscious Evolution (Video)
0 Written and Narrated by Will Wilkinson. Barbara Marx Hubbard was an inspiration and a friend. We met thirty years ago at a conference, then she hired me for a year and my wife and I lived in her communal home in Santa Barbara. For those who don’t know, Barbara was a futurist and her theme was “conscious evolution.” She once ran for Vice President and toured/spoke/wrote tirelessly on this theme.

2022 – The Year of Activation (Video)
Written and Narrated by Will Wilkinson. The turning of the year provides an opportunity to set a clear intention for 2022. Uncertainty and fear will surely persist, but that can’t stop us from enjoying a meaningful year, if we create a reliable compass to navigate with. That’s what the following is for. “Something wonderful is happening”. I first heard those words during a solitary writing retreat in Mount Shasta.

Love First: Broadcasting Love Into the World

Is Crypto Bullshit?
Planet-wrecking money laundry or the next phase of human evolution? Why not both? As you may have gathered from my previous post, I’ve become interested in cryptocurrency and blockchain regulation. I’ve honestly been a little hesitant to write about this stuff because opinions on the subject are oddly polarized. I know I’ve got crypto-skeptical readers, followers and friends who would be exasperated if I suddenly started spouting off about it all the time.
The Infrastructure Bill's Tough Lessons for Cryptoland
This is exactly how blockchains work. (Credit: Getty Images) The crypto/blockchain world seems pretty well tuned into regulatory developments, and rumors thereof, coming out of the SEC and the other major regulators of the American financial system. Crypto publications and podcasts, which I’ve been avidly consuming of late, seem to find the contents of Gary Gensler’s consciousness absolutely riveting. That’s fine. That’s great.
Upcoming gigs in Manchester that rockers shouldn’t miss
What’s great about living in Manchester? It’s the culture. Manny has a rich artistic history, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the music industry. The likes of Oasis, Stone Roses, and New Order hail from the city, which is why Manchester has a deep connection with rock music. One of the benefits is that old and new rock and roll acts never miss the North West when they start touring. Rock gigs take centre stage in some of the top venues the city has to offer every year.
Before Truth: Curiosity, Negative Capability, Humility
The truth is in there somewhere My old friend John Tomasi, newly installed as the President of the Heterodox Academy, has written a lovely, stimulating, little essay in praise of curiosity. I encourage you to read it. John gently takes issue with another essay, written by Heterodox Academy founder Jonathan Haidt, arguing that the sacred value and guiding idealof the university ought to be truth, not social justice. Tomasi writes: To be curious, at root, is to wonder about possibilities.
A Case Study in NIMBY Entitlement
The exclusive, pale beauty of the single-family home with a garden “lifestyle.” I’m a little late to this but don’t want to let the delicious opportunity pass. John Mirisch, former mayor of Beverly Hills mayor and a current city council member, recently graced us with a truly astonishing CalMatters op-ed on the theme that, basically, moderate zoning reform is the real racism.

Paradise found! VIVA welcomes back the Eden Sessions: It seems an age since we were back at the Eden Sessions, but back we were this September albeit later than the traditional summer months. This year’s sessions included Ben Howard, McFly, Snow Patrol, The Script and Idles. Even more luckily for us this year’s Eden in Cornwall had a band that we’ve wanted to see for a while ‘Royal Blood’.
Perspective | Larry Elder tried his own Big Lie. He did Democrats — and democracy — a favor.
This week, Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom crushed the bid to oust him from office by a roughly 27-percentage-point, 2.5 million-vote margin, with around three-quarters of votes counted as of Wednesday. Unseating Newsom was unlikely. But that didn’t stop Republican Larry Elder — the hard-right radio personality who emerged as Newsom’s leading challenger — from trying to preemptively delegitimize the result with intimations of voter fraud. “They’re gonna cheat.
