Interview
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I started on a used electric Smith Corona. That was back in the pre-internet days, so I don't think that earns me any points.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
I means being able to be able to view the subject from a vantage that will benefit the largest number of readers.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
The best pitch was to travel to France and write about Bordeaux, all expenses paid.
What's your favorite drink?
That's simple: all of them.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The New Yorker. Writing matters, and the New Yorker is the place to enjoy words on a weekly basis.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That everyone in the wine trade are snobs. Folks who come from the production side of things are very laid back.
