Wine Instructor Certification Classes are held nightly from August 24–28, 7:30–9:30 pm. The Teacher Training Certification is the essential first step toward becoming a certified wine instructor. Offered through the National Wine School, this program forms the foundation of the Teacher Training Track — the pathway leading to the Certified Sommelier Instructor (CSI) credential. This certification is designed for students who aspire to teach, lead, or communicate about wine at a professional level.

We just spent the last six months being sued by people who believe they own the name “Philly Wine School.” I’ve been thinking a lot about what that name actually means. To me, being Philly’s wine school does not mean flying to Europe to be flattered by winemakers, posing with a glass in front of a vineyard, or using wine credentials as a velvet rope. It means doing the work. People gotta drink great wines, and they can’t spend a fortune. This is Philly, goddamnit.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes. I started on a used electric Smith Corona. That was back in the pre-internet days, so I don't think that earns me any points.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

I means being able to be able to view the subject from a vantage that will benefit the largest number of readers.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The best pitch was to travel to France and write about Bordeaux, all expenses paid.

Best Wine Reviews, Wine Blog Awards

2014 - Reviews

The first American Wine Blog Awards were given in 2007. Created by Tom Wark and hosted on his blog Fermention, the awards quickly became the leading means of identifying excellence in wine blogging. Wine blogs are nominated for awards by the general public and the top finalists for each awards category are selected by a panel of judges. Awards are given based on a combination of the judges’ opinions and a public vote. In 2010, the Wine Blog Awards underwent major changes and administration was given to the folks at the Wine Bloggers Conference. Changes were made to the awards themselves and this website was established as the awards’ home. The year of the award represents the year they are given and received, not the preceding year. From 2010 through 2014, the awards were announced live each year at the Wine Bloggers Conference. Starting in 2015, the timeline was changed to announce winners via social media prior to the conference with awards given in a ceremony at the conference, allowing winners to make arrangements to attend.
