WISE GUY: So many storylines for Week 8 and with that a little bit of pressure
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... With league play finished for most Macomb County high schools, many teams still scheduled some very tough opponents for Week 8 and Week 9 of the regular season. Some are probably thinking … actually, what in the heck were they thinking. There’s a gauntlet of a schedule and there’s really a gauntlet of a schedule times two.
Wise guy: Week 7, already? Where has the time gone?
Week 7, already? It seems like just yesterday when The Wise Guys were on a world tour, living the dream and the life and not having to worry about anything in the world. How did it get to be October already? Man, girls golf and boys tennis teams are in the midst of regional week and boys soccer districts start next week. Where did the time go? And now we're in Week 7 of the high school football season in Michigan.

Man, girls golf and boys tennis teams are in the midst of regional week and boys soccer districts start next week. Where did the time go? And now we’re in Week 7 of the high school football season in Michigan.
WISE GUY: Several schools have a chance to clinch this weekend, who will step up?
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Picture this scenario. A head coach has seven varsity assistants, several junior varsity and freshman coaches, several team managers, a videographer, statisticians, public address announcer, spotters, an athletics director, and a host of other personal that work games in different capacities.
WISE GUY: Conference races are heating up just like our pics
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... The mid-point of the high school football season is here – already – and after this weekend some of the area’s conference races will start to get a little clearer. If there are any upsets, they could get murkier. Regardless, there are some big games this weekend in Macomb County and around Metro Detroit in general.
WISE GUY: Now it’s time for the contenders to start to separate from the contenders
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... A bunch of sports dudes were sitting in a restaurant recently arguing about high school sports. Imagine that. A group of armchair quarterbacks giving their thoughts about high school, college and pro football teams and how certain teams will do and how conference races will pan out. Then it occurred to this Wise Guy. What do people really know? What do they know what goes on behind the scenes and how things will work out in the end?
With MAC play on tap, we’re ready for some clashes and overtime games. Who’s with us?
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... Ah, yes. Macomb Area Conference and Catholic High School League play begins on the gird-iron. Last week the Blue Water Area Conference and Charter School Conference began league play, while now most of the area’s conferences will be knee deep in the wild fun of conference races. There’s a lot of big-time games on tap. Teams that will definitely be in the title chase while several others trying to salvage their seasons after unfortunate starts.
WISE GUY: BWAC openers, MAC crossovers on tap for Week 2
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... There were some intriguing results in Week 1 of the Michigan high school football season both locally in Macomb County and the Macomb Area Conference and Blue Water Area Conference along with the entire state.
WISE GUY: Never a time of more optimism than opening week of the fall season
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... We’ve said it a thousand times before and it will be said again. There is no greater time for optimism during the high school sports calendar year than in August. Teams in all fall sports began official practices on Aug. 10 and most sports have begun competition. Now football takes center stage this week with Week 1 games set for Aug. 27-29. Optimism is running on all cylinders.

Joe Duffy: From Prodigy to Sports Handicapping Pioneer Joe Duffy has been handicapping sports literally since childhood. Growing up in suburban Philadelphia, he became fascinated with picking winners against the spread when the Philadelphia Inquirer ran a season-long contest featuring professional handicappers selecting five NFL games each week.
WISE GUY: State powers collide, classic matchups on deck at Ford Field
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... What, did you think we’d stop picking games even though Macomb County’s last hopes were dashed last weekend in the state semifinals? Not a chance. Fall practices in all sports began in early August and this weekend is the official end to the 2025 prep sports season in Michigan with the MHSAA 11-Man Football state finals at Ford Field. All of the other fall sports have ended over the previous six weeks.
WISE GUY: Wise Guy Nation made the playoffs, did your team make the cut? Original
Sometimes when picking prep football games, the word ‘we’ comes into effect. It could be that there is so much knowledge swirling around upstairs between the ears about prep sports in Michigan and the nickname of Wise Guy Nation comes into play. Plus, it sounds better than just using the word ‘I’.
WISE GUY: Now the season is really heating up and league champions are set to be crowned
It’s amazing to think that two months ago, we were all on a boat somewhere, listening to music with our fishing poles in the water. Enjoying the sun and the summer months. Now, it’s already Week 7 on the prep football calendar in Michigan and over the next three weeks a lot will happen inside that beautiful world. Conference championships or co-championships will be crowned, postseason dreams will be realized and in some cases those dreams will be dashed.
WISE GUY: Let’s talk about the weather … and Week 6 prep football Original
Okay … Here’s a thought. If it could stay this nice out through the prep football state semifinals weekend, nobody would complain, right? By then, all of the outdoors activity when it comes to fall prep sports in Michigan are completed with the football state finals being outdoors at Ford Field. And all of the other fall sports are completed by that time, too.
WISE GUY: Sometimes even Wise Guys have a tender heart Original
A phone call recently took place. It was a group chat between prep seers near and far chatting away about high school sports. There’s a shocker. We talked about certain seers that have come and gone over the years. How some have retired or gone AWOL.

This has positioned the Health Supplements Market as one of the most dynamic sectors in the wellness economy.
WISE GUY: Week 2 picks should be even better this time around
What we learned in Week 1. One thing is we are not as good as we think we are in picking games. Or are we? Thinking 4-1, or a .800 percentage, is not so bad. We can do better. Which will happen this week. The second week has mostly crossovers between Macomb Area Conference schools or still some non-league games for others along with some conference games up in the Blue Water Area Conference, Charter School Conference and Big Thumb Conference.
Prep football is back and so is Wise Guy’s perfection of picks
It’s finally here. The 2025 prep football season has arrived. Just about all other fall sports have already begun competition, and Week 1 high school football games will be played Thursday through Saturday across the state of Michigan. It’s a great time of year and optimism never rings louder than at the start of the fall prep sports season. “We worked hard this offseason, in the weight room, in 7-on7s, team bonding…” Yada yada yada. Let’s play football. It’s time to put up or shut up.
Everyone talks about grinding.
But most don’t realize real discipline doesn’t come from hype videos or morning routines posted online. It’s built in silence — when you do the work no one sees, with no one clapping, and no one checking in. The loudest dudes in the room usually burn out. The ones who move quiet? They’re dangerous. If you can stay focused when there’s no reward, no motivation, no attention — that’s when it clicks. Discipline is a choice you make when comfort sounds better, but you move anyway.
