The award winner says: "In Bermondsey, United St Saviour’s Charity (UStSC), a Southwark-based charity of almost 500 years, set out the ambition to re-interpret the traditional almshouse, offering high-quality social collective housing for older people. The new almshouse, Appleby Blue, provides 59 apartments and shared facilities. The site was originally council-owned, occupied by a disused care home.

To celebrate the six outstanding buildings shortlisted for the 2023 Stirling Prize, RIBA has produced Stirling Stories, a series of in-depth films exploring their design and construction, and giving viewers a unique understanding of how each is experienced.

Designed by award-winning architects Witherford Watson Mann with exhibition design by Nissen Richards Studio, The Courtauld’s redevelopment has revitalised and opened up the magnificent building conceived by Sir William Chambers in the late 1770s to create an inspiring setting for the 21st century. The three-year redevelopment of the Courtauld Gallery has been the most significant modernisation project in its history, providing a transformed home for one of the UK’s greatest art collections.
