SAN ANTONIO – Narcan has been making headlines because of a rise in fentanyl overdose deaths. Schools are keeping Narcan on campus, police departments are outfitting officers with it and anyone can get it shipped to them for free. Narcan comes in two forms: a nasal spray and an injectable. The nasal spray is more commonly used today, but the injectable form has existed for decades. Narcan is the brand name of the medication, while Naloxone is the generic name.

No matter where you’re from or where you’re going, every driver deals with traffic lights. And perhaps the biggest complaint? “They’re not timed well.” Or worse yet, “they’re not timed at all.” Those are gripes local public works departments hear often. “Yes, yes we do,” said Tony Vasquez, Bexar County Public Works Division Chief. “Mostly that people are at the light too long or it didn’t let enough cars go through.” It’s much the same within the City of San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO – I’ve seen the need for blood in South Texas. In Uvalde. In Sutherland Springs. In the stories of survivors I’ve had the honor of meeting through my line of work. What I haven’t seen — until now — is what happens to blood after it’s donated. I went to the labs at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center to find out.
