Songs that mention watches....
So, I listen to the radio at work and keep hearing songs with watches (brands) mentioned, which got me thinking...what other songs do??? The two examples I'll give are (in my opinion) pretty rubbish songs. It's the typical hip hop / pop mention of a Rolex. Can you give us any more that mention watches that aren't a 'Roley'? Please give us us the artist, song, and then lyric. Tinie Tempah. Girls like. 'Roley on the wrist that's me' Major lazer. Run up.
searching for something...weird...
There's a Jump Hour thread going in the Public Forum, w/some nice jurassic technology on display ... maybe not weird enough??? I would sell my soul for that Ripley Seiko Chronograph, but I'd probably flip it in about six months, and then I wouldn't have a soul anymore, so probably not going to do that.
Steel Bagelsport let's see them.
#2 · I enjoy them. I actually had a couple of other dial colors of the Bautiluses previously; now just these two. The one in the middle is a Bvlgari Diagono Prototipo diver homage -- pretty nice-looking automatic for $30! 2.1 MB Views: 3,165 #3 · #5 · Very nice love the strap I'll have to upload a few photos of mine after work. #4 · Unfortunate choice for a name... #6 · wrong.. best choice for a name.. hilarious even if I never end up buying one...
My Aunt says, "Oh, I have another watch for you. Found it in a yard sale." Uh, is this what I think it is?

White dial with black-outlined, applied indices?
#1 · I absolutely love this look; it really adds to the pop and legibility of a watch; but it's not as common as one might think it would be in the affordable space. Some great examples of the look I'm talking about: Rolex Oyster Perpetual: ... and Sinn has some models that do this look well: What affordable models with this look are out there?
Moto Koure - Whose got one on order?
#1 · I've got a Moto Koure on order although without checking my email order confirmation, i can't remember what colour i went for. i went for the quartz version as buying more for the aesthetics rather than the mechanics so didn't fancy spending £500 when i'm saving up for an Oris. Have kept this incoming under the radar from the Wife too. Who else is getting one? Sort by #2 · I have the burgundy mecha quartz on preorder....

Sylph, by Orion
#7 · May 4, 2018 Looks like the Orion 1 case, those long lugs and the big knurled crown are very distinctive features of a very underrated watch; amazing how a dial can dramatically change the whole vibe of a watch, superb. Cheers, Alan
Got any promotional watches to share?
Any of you who frequent the Affordables forum may recall my story about how my elderly but super-handy aunt helped me put together a watch cabinet. Thread here. She went above and beyond to make it extra-nice and then donated to me a pile of older watches she had accumulated over a lifetime, including a beautiful, vintage, Stowa hand-winder, a perfectly running Elgin pocket watch with chain, and a "vintage" Casio Tachy Meter digital watch that looks and runs great after a battery change.
Eric Clapton's panda chronograph here? Cream era, mid-to-late '60s
#1 · a moment ago Do I see four subdials here? I presumed it was a Rolex or Tudor of some sort, but a Google Image Search wasn't showing a conclusive match. This is just a still from a YouTube video, so excuse the quality: If you prefer to see it live and moving in the video, link here. (And the song is of course fantastic.) Any info on this old pocket watch? Logo is an A in a triangle
This one will need a lot of work to restore; it's missing the crystal, hands and the movement isn't running. But I do think the dial is pretty. I'm trying to find out a little about it. The dial has a logo of an A in a triangle. I figured I could find out more by opening the back. The inside of the case back has a few marks and numbers, that I can't really make out. The guy at the local watch shop said it's silver.
Any East Coasters with Fort Collins, Colorado, radio controlled watches?
I'm very interested in getting a Seiko Brightz SAGA149. As I understand it, it radio syncs in the U.S. via a signal from Fort Collins, Colo. I couldn't find a manual for it online, but I found one for the radio-controlled WorldTimer. In it is this: That doesn't quite include Detroit, where I live, or any of the East Coast. This is a surprise to me. Are they really blowing off the New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, etc., markets? I'm interested to know: A.
Saved relics from my state (Michigan's) watch history - The Star Watch Case Co. of Ludington
As I got into this hobby more and more, I eventually learned about Michigan's, and the Northwest Lower Peninsula's specifically, fairly significant role in American watch lore, particularly through the Manistee Watch Co. and the Star Watch Case Co. of Ludington, about two hours south of where I grew up. What I've been able to learn from various sites around the Internet: The Star Watch Case Company started in 1897 in Elgin, Illinois, making watch cases for the Elgin Watch Company.
I am blown away by the quality and value of this Sugess hand-winding chrono
Discussion Starter • #1 • Mar 21, 2017 This was part of a big (multi-watch) Taobao order that I put serious work into, mulling over it for weeks. I was intrigued the moment I saw these, and, upon arrival, it very much exceeds my expectations. Getting this for $142 plus shipping and Chinese purchasing agent fee feels like stealing. I've owned a lot of watches, and it looks and feels like a watch worth about five times that. Sapphire crystal and Sea-Gull ST1901 movement.
Best black-red racing-style chronographs
I was coming in here to suggest the Precidrive DS-2 as well, but I see it's already been offered!Instead, however, you could look at the Autodromo Prototipo perhaps? So this one is showing as $775 on their site which is hardly "affordable," but I have seen them used quite a lot, and you never know -- a "WTB" posting could net you one perhaps! It's a cool looking design. There might be some nice red and black vintage chronos out there, but they could take a bit of hunting down.
Need a JJY radio time signal simulator app on Android. Or a website that actually works
Discussion Starter • #1 • Dec 29, 2016 (Edited) I fairly recently bought a Citizen PMD56-2951 watch, kinda expensive, which I like quite a bit. Problem is, stupid me didn't realize its radio control didn't include the U.S. band, only the Japanese, JJY band. (Why would anybody make a higher-end watch that way at this point? But I digress.) There is a very nice JJY simulator on iTunes, that I was using and it was synching my watch. I recently switched to an Android phone. There is no similar app.
Where to find the Vostok Amphibia 1967 reissue now? And what's a fair price for it these days?
Discussion Starter • #1 • Mar 6, 2016 Just discovered this watch and really want one. I was born in 1967 so I love the prominence of that year on the dial and rubber strap. And those hands and that dial just look awesome generally. Based on my Internet searching, this has gotten scarce, it seems. Anyone have ideas as to where I should look? And what is a fair price for this watch these days? There's a guy selling one on eBay for $350, which seems kind of steep.
Audaz "New" Sea Armour dive watch - first impressions
Discussion Starter • #1 • a moment ago Just arrived. Hong Kong microbrand. 45mm, which I can pull off with an almost 8-inch wrist. With a beefy, tactile, easy to use crown that's almost surely going to have its detractors. I'm fine with it. 53mm lug-to-lug, but the lugs are stubby and turned down. I don't feel it that long at all (and the case size already scared the small-wristed away, anyway). 15mm thickness. Sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, NH35A movement. No date. 200m water resistance.
Nutty idea, but could you make a mechanical digital watch?
Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119J; Vacheron Constantin Overseas; Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Duo; Rolex Submariner 114060, Oyster Perpetual 114300; Omega Seamaster 300; Montblanc Heritage Dual Time; Tudor Black Bay, Black Bay GMT; Nomos Tangente 35; Ming 17.06.

Vietnam-era Air Force vet brings New Old Stock 1971 Rolex Oyster Daytona to "Antiques Roadshow"
He definitely wore the watch. Look at all that cheese, and the sticker on the backside of the watch is worn from friction and sweat. To be fair, he never said he didn't.
The most interesting affordable moon phase watches come from China
(Cross-posted from the Affordables forum.) "Affordable moon phase" almost invariably means this: Zzzzzzz..... Very vanilla. When I stumbled across this watch I'm about to show you (via many, kinda crappy cell phone pics), I was intrigued on the spot by just how different it is. Finding an automatic with a large, realistic moon phase display just doesn't happen under $1,500 (and didn't happen at all until Christopher Ward came out with their C9). This was under $300.
F71 True Confessions
Discussion Starter • #1 • Feb 27, 2016 The place where you come clean about a watch fact about yourself that may shock and outrage the masses. I'll begin. -- I guess display casebacks don't mean a thing to me; I don't spend a moment looking at the casebacks of any of my watches -- even the ones with nice, decorated rotors like my Citizen Signature Grand Classic. -- I'm pretty sure I don't like NATOs. I have a distressed leather Zulu strap that I kind of like. But nylon-ish NATOs?
