PULLMAN – Washington State leadoff hitter Trek Stemp will swing at just about anything. The second baseman almost never walks, regularly hacks outside the strike zone and routinely finds himself on the wrong side of the count. The results have been fantastic. “I would say he’s as good a leadoff hitter as there is in the country,” WSU coach Marty Lees said. “And I believe everybody in the Pac-12 feels the same way.

Former Washington State first baseman and pitcher John Olerud has been named the Pac-12 Baseball Player of the Century. Olerud headed the conference’s All-Century team, which was announced Monday night on Pac-12 Networks. A 36-member panel cast their ballots for the conference’s top 20 infielders/outfielders, top 10 pitchers and Pitcher, Player and Coach of the Century. Former Washington pitcher Tim Lincecum was among the pitchers selected.

PULLMAN – The Gonzaga baseball team rinsed out last weekend’s series loss and got its mojo back with a 7-4 victory over Washington State in Pullman on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs, who have won eight of their last 10 games, saw a seven-game winning streak snapped as they lost two of three games at San Francisco, putting GU (22-12, 10-5) in a three-way tie atop the conference standings.
