1 THE VALUE OF POPULATION GENETICS Population genetics is a valuable method for understanding the genetic relationships within and between populations of organisms. By examining genetic structure, researchers can infer patterns of relatedness and gene flow which, when combined with geographic (Benham et al., 2021), environmental (Raghavan et al., 2021), temporal (Tran et al., 2021) and anthropogenic factors (Multini et al., 2020), reveal drivers shaping population structure.
