Mayors see a shared future harnessing technology to preserve heritage sites
The cities of Huangshan and Stralsund differ in size, geography and architectural style. Yet both face the same challenge: how to balance preservation and development as World Heritage Site cities. At the 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue in Huangshan in May, the mayors of the two cities found common ground: technology can empower culture and urban development, bridging tradition and the future. Their vision extended from nature and culture to daily life and urban governance.

Viewpoint: Uncertainties may cap Asia scrap price gains
Ferrous scrap prices rose in most Asian regions in the last quarter of 2023 and this optimism will likely extend into 2024, but uncertainties from wider markets could stifle the bull run. Fourth-quarter Asian scrap prices were supported by firmer Turkish imported scrap prices, rising US domestic scrap prices, and Beijing's real estate sector stimulus measures. Asia's scrap benchmark — the Taiwan containerised HMS 1/2 80:20 index — rose by $24.50/t on the year to $384.50/t cfr on 12 December.

Synthesis of fungicidal morpholines and isochromenopyridinones by acid-catalyzed intramolecular reactions of isoindolinones
Synthesis of fungicidal morpholines and isochromenopyridinones by acid-catalyzed intramolecular reactions of isoindolinones Acid-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization or rearrangement of isoindolinone derivatives is described. 3-Hydroxy/ethoxy-3,4-dihydro-6H-[1,4]-oxazino-[3,4-a]-isoindol-6-ones are obtained in moderate to good yields. Further acid-catalyzed intramolecular rearrangement reactions give 6H-isochromeno-[4,3-b]-pyridin-6-ones.

EDTA etching: a simple way for regulating the traps, size and aqueous-dispersibility of Cr3+-doped zinc gallate
Traps, size and aqueous-dispersibility are the most important parameters that affect the features and applications of persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs). However, simultaneous controlling of these parameters is rather difficult and has not been reported yet. We present the first exploration on adjusting the traps, size and aqueous-dispersibility of PLNPs via simple ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) etching. Cr0.0043+:ZnGa2O4 (ZGO) was used as the PLNP model.
