2.1 Video collecting and filtering From 2019 to 2021, the first author spent 30 months conducting ethnographic and ecological fieldwork in Sanjiangyuan, a vast area of over 360,000 km2 on the eastern Tibetan Plateau in Qinghai Province, China. He asked local collaborators to forward large carnivore encounter videos to him whenever they came across relevant posts in WeChat groups.
