Formation of α-chiral centers by asymmetric β-C(sp3)-H arylation, alkenylation, and alkynylation
Targeting just one of the two equivalent branch ends in Y-shaped molecules is a particular challenge for catalysis. Enzymes manage to do it by grasping the whole molecule, octopus-like, but often enzymes cannot tolerate minor structural variations. Wu et al. produced an amide-directed palladium catalyst that, armed with oxazoline-derived chiral ligands, could reliably attack just one methyl member of isopropyl groups.
Unusual dimeric tetrahydroxanthone derivatives from Aspergillus lentulus and the determination of their axial chiralities
The crude extract of Aspergillus lentulus, obtained from its rice cultures, was purified through silica gel and ODS column chromatography (CC), as well as preparative HPLC to yield compounds 1–9 (Fig. 1). Lentulin A (2) was obtained as a yellow powder. Its molecular formula, C H O , was established from the positive HRESIMS ion at m/z 703.1631 (calculated for 703.1633, C H O Na).
