HuR coordinates systemic aging through platelet infiltration
Abstract Aging involves morphological and functional changes across different organs, but how these changes are linked among the different organs remains to be elucidated. Here, we uncover a central role of platelets in systemic aging. In aged mice, the levels of platelet-secreted pro-inflammatory factors (PSPF) increased greatly in the serum and platelets, leading to a diffuse increase of platelet infiltration in the brain, liver, lung, kidney, and aortic root.
Changes in internal jugular vein respiratory variation during tidal volume challenge predict volume responsiveness in lumbar surgery under protective ventilation: a prospective cohort study | Journal of Intensive Care | Full Text
Ethical approval for this prospective cohort study was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated with Nanjing University Medical School (No. 2023-580-02 [dated 22 December 2023]). All participants were provided with written information and gave their consent to participate. All methods were performed in accordance with the relevant guidelines and regulations of the Declaration of Helsinki.
The HM-TARGET personalised real-time haemodynamic targets in critical care - Nature Communications
Abstract Haemodynamic management in critical care typically relies on static, population-based targets that overlook patient-specific physiology and the evolving nature of illness. We develop and validate a framework for real-time, personalised haemodynamic management using a time-dependent Cox model that integrates static and dynamic clinical data to predict survival probabilities and derive optimal heart rate and systolic blood pressure targets over time.
A Genome-wide study on the genetic and causal effects of smoking in neurodegeneration - Journal of Translational Medicine
The GWAS summary data for smoking-related phenotypes were sourced from the University of Minnesota data repository (https://twin-cities.umn.edu/) [20]. The smoking-related phenotypes included two aspects of smoking initiation: age of initiation of regular smoking (AgeSmk; N = 341,427), and a binary indicator of whether an individual had ever smoked regularly (SmkInit; N = 1,232,091). Smoking intensity was evaluated by the average number of cigarettes per day (CigDay; N = 337,334).
