Maternal Heat Shock Protein as a Potential Biomarker of Adaptation to Heat Stress during Pregnancy and Its Relation to Preterm Birth Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Introduction Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Rates of extreme weather events and elevated temperatures are on the rise. (1) In the last ten years, the average worldwide yearly temperatures have been the highest on record, and are projected to continue increasing. (2) The health effects of such increasing and sustained heat exposures, as well as physiological adaptation to heat (both acute responses and acclimatization) are not fully understood, particularly in pregnancy.
Prenatal heat stress and predicted postpartum cardiovascular disease risk: a longitudinal cohort study
|
Abstract Heat stress has been implicated as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) is considered a more physiologically relevant measure of heat stress than temperature alone, accounting for direct sunlight, relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed. Pregnant individuals may be particularly vulnerable to heat stress due to physiological changes in thermoregulation.
